About

american empire unmasked

The United States doesn’t officially have an empire. But for more than a century, it has overthrown governments, backed coups and dictatorships, trained foreign security forces, imposed economic pressure, fought covert wars, manipulated elections, and intervened in countries thousands of miles from its own borders.

American Empire Unmasked is an attempt to tell the forgotten and interesting stories behind that power.

The focus here is often on the details that disappear from conventional summaries of history. I go into books, declassified documents, government investigations, contemporary reporting, and historical research. My interest in the dynamics of American power means following strange anecdotes into much larger stories.

And sometimes it means questioning versions of history that have become so familiar that we rarely stop to examine them. Sometimes there’s a link to the present; sometimes the stories will be ends in and of themselves. Either way, I hope you find something of interest and intrigue here.
